SEND, Therapy and Pupil Support

Our specially trained staff are our biggest strength.

Frewen is unique in that all our classroom staff, including Therapists and Teaching Assistants, have specialist dyslexia training, and the great majority have further specialist qualifications.

We provide you with a full staff list in the 'Information' section, which shows details of qualifications held. Much of our In Service Training supplements this specialist training, and many of our teachers have in excess of ten years' experience at Frewen. Visiting inspectors frequently comment on the excellent relationship between pupils and staff.

While class sizes inevitably vary, we maintain the average teacher to pupil ratio at better than one to six, and one to one mentoring is available when needed. Classes only very rarely exceed eight, and in most instances there will be a TA in class to support the teacher.

Our Speech and Language Therapists are Bethany Driver and Amanda Smith, our Occupational Therapists is Nicki Foster, our Physiotherapist is Valerie Wood, and our Therapy Assistant is Christine Mitchell.

We take the pastoral side of our role as seriously as the academic. As well as our highly experienced boarding care team, we have a trained  and experienced matron, who can provide additional support when needed.

When it comes to preparing for life after Frewen, we have a specialist Careers and Work Experience Consultant with extensive professional experience, whose success is reflected in the number of work experience placements that result in offers of employment.

Our support staff too are extremely well qualified and experienced, and help to ensure that the highest standards are maintained across all aspects of the school's operations.
