Sixth Form
Frewen College does not have an in-house Sixth Form. This is for three main reasons:
- We work hard to prepare our pupils for an independent and fulfilling life after they leave Frewen. We believe that by the time they have completed their GCSEs they should be sufficiently confident and capable to 'take on the world' on more-or-less equal terms. We do not consider it in their best long-term interests to remain within the 'comfort zone' offered by the school. For those that wish to study A Levels, and have the ability to do so, a transfer to a mainstream college provides a much better stepping stone into adulthood.
- We accept that while our very small class sizes are excellent in helping to pursue our educational objectives, some compromises have to be made in terms of social interaction. These compromises would be even more pronounced in a Sixth Form.
- We do not consider that a small school such as ours would be able to provide a wide enough range of courses and facilities to provide for the widely differing educational needs of our pupils after GCSE. Students would be forced to compromise to study the courses available rather than those most useful to them.
Over many years we have built up excellent relationships with a number of Sixth Form and other specialist colleges, who understand the additonal support some of our students need. All pupils who wish to, succeed in finding a place in further education, training, or employment.
