Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy is an important resource at Frewen College, because aspects of the child's everyday life such as play, and developmental and educational progress are all included. The assessment is holistic and the child and their needs are at the centre of all the work.
Once the formalised assessments, observations and discussions with relevant individuals have been completed, a decision is made as to whether an OT programme is required.
If so, it will usually consist of a once weekly one to one session with the therapist. All activities in the treatment will be made fun for the child and delivered at a level the child can achieve.
According to their needs, pupils may also receive weekly co-ordination groups run by a therapy assistant. Specialist programmes are also delivered as necessary including sensory integration programmes such as 'How Does Your Engine Run?' and 'Tools for Teens'. Specialist handwriting programmes run jointly with the classroom assistants including 'Speed Up' and 'Write from the Start', and specialist gross motor skills development programmes.
The OT room is located in the senior school and is equipped with sensory integration facilities as well as equipment to assist with improving gross and fine motor skills.
