Medical support

The Medical Centre

At Frewen College we are committed to promoting the well being of our pupils
and staff by endeavouring to provide the best possible care, whether physical,
psychological or emotional.

The Medical Centre is situated near the School Office and provides a quiet
environment away from the bustle of school. It is made up of ‘Matron’s room’
which is in the process of being refurbished, and includes a work station,
a treatment bay and a comfortable area with sofas in which the children can
’chill’. The sick bay has 3 beds and an ‘en-suite’ bathroom, and any pupils
unwell during the day can be cared for here, until feeling better or their
parents are able to collect.

‘Matron’ Claudia Allsopp is an experienced and caring professional, fully trained to give medication and First Aid. Matron offers support and care to boarders and day pupils during the school day, and liaises daily with teaching and boarding staff in order to give continuity of care.

Claudia is involved with PHSE sessions on First Aid and has given assemblies
on related topics such as ‘No Smoking Day’, and informs staff about medical
conditions and treatments.

Parents of children attending evaluation days are asked to complete comprehensive
medical forms so that we have good baseline information on their child, and
staff can be alerted to medical conditions, allergies etc. before the child
arrives. They are always most welcome to contact Matron at any time
if they have concerns about their children and she will always feed
back if there have been problems at school.

Boarding

Outside school hours, care is provided by the boarding staff. Medical
care is provided by Northiam Surgery during weekdays, where the boarders
are registered with the school doctor, Doctor James, although they can opt
to see a male or female doctor. At night and weekends cover is provided by
SEEDOC.

Matron arranges and accompanies new registration checks at the Surgery,
as well as visits to the local dentist, optician or hospital for out-patient
appointments or emergencies. She also look after year 6 boarders between
4 and 5pm.

And some 'customer feedback'…..

”The medical centre is very well organised and Matron does a very good job”.
