Exam Results

GCSE Results

First of all, a note of caution. We know that a number of parents view these results and think 'My child cannot possibly achieve that, so we had better look elsewhere.'

Do not be alarmed! Your child's past performance in mainstream education, without specialist support and access to available exam concessions, gives very little indication of just what can be achieved. Many of the results shown below come from children whose parents thought they would leave school with no qualifications at all.

Exam entries

We encourage pupils to sit GCSE exams in as many subjects as we believe they can manage. Those we think cannot cope with English or Maths at GCSE level are put in for the Entry Level Certifcate so that they have a goal to aim for and a reward for their efforts.
We do not select the examination results we publish, as we believe that all our pupils' efforts represent an achievement of which they, and we, can be proud. Please note however that due to our small year groups and the extent of the difficulties some of our pupils have, performance levels can vary widely from one year to another.

GCSE Results 2009:

Pupils normally sit at least 5 GCSEs. In 2009 we had 15 Year 11 pupils sit GCSEs, and the overall pass rate was 99%, the only 'failure' being due to absence. 34% of all results were at Grade A*-C, which is slightly lower than normal. Our pupils gained an average of 6.8 passes, with all but one gaining 5 passes or more. This year we had no-one sit Drama, but we did have our first ever GCSE in Physical Education, and achieved two Cs and two Ds.
Congratulations are due to Yoddy Chapman and Charlie Payne, each of whom gained 5 A*-C passes. Also a special pat on the back to Linda Kilpatrick, one of our Cleaning Assistants, who gained a C pass in Maths and would now like a job in the Bursar's office!

Entry Level Certificates 2009

Far fewer pupils sat the Entry Level Certificates for Maths and/ or English this year, with just 4 for Maths and 7 for English. ELC exams are graded 3,2 or 1, or 'U' for unclassified, and just to confuse everyone, 3 is the top!
