English Department
English & Literacy
The English Department is responsible for all Literacy, Language Development and Literature, together with Drama. It is the key to the success of all that we do.
We recognise that each student is an individual with individual needs.
We believe that students will only produce their best work
- When they feel empowered and are fully engaged in the task.
- When they are encouraged to feel they have something valuable to share and are confident that the audience will listen and be supportive.
It must be emphasised that our students display a wide variety of learning problems and styles and the course we provide must be treated in a flexible way in order to reflect their differing needs.
We enter as many students as possible for GCSE English examinations, but if we do not consider that they can achieve a pass grade, they take the Entry Level Certificate to ensure they receive recognition for their efforts.
