Activities
Links with Frewen College Juniors
The Mathematics Department seeks to develop and maintain links with Frewen Juniors. These links are beneficial as they provide opportunities for staff and students, from both Senior and Junior sections, to widen their experience of teaching, learning and assessment processes practised in the day to day life of the school. Links are currently made in the following ways:
- Resources central to day to day Mathematics lessons, such as word lists and hundred squares, are standardised across the school.
- During the Summer Term, the Junior students are given opportunities to take part in Mathematics lessons in the Mathematics Department at Frewen College.
Other Events and Activities
Students are encouraged by the Maths Department to devise and carry out charitable events. This allows the students to work as a team towards a common goal and work practically with money – developing life skills.
- Students represent the school annually in the UK Maths Challenge competition and certificates are awarded at Prize Giving, at the end of the Summer Term.
- The Maths Department also runs Child Line’s Number Day throughout the school, including the Juniors, successfully raising awareness of the charity through fun maths activities.
