Principal's Welcome

A very warm welcome to Frewen College, the original dyslexia specialists.

Choosing the right school for your child is one of any parent's greatest responsibilities, even more so if they need a little extra help to access the curriculum. I hope you will find our website informative, and that you will get in touch with me if you consider we may be able to assist your child achieve their full potential.

Once again we start the new year with record pupil numbers, and to accommodate our extra pupils we have recruited more staff, created additional teaching and therapy rooms, and expanded our curriculum choices. We have launched a new Sixth Form offer for 2014, in partnership with Bexhill Sixth Form College, Plumpton College, and Great Dixter Garden Trust.  This will enable us to combine in-house courses with access to a wide range of courses from high quality local providers, with our team providing pastoral and SEN support. External applications will be welcome provided that students meet our admissions criteria.

For our younger pupils, the recent introduction of Frewen Preparatory School, under the inspirational leadership of Miss Jeannette Bidder as Headmistress, has proved very successful and the school is now filling up quickly. Jeannette is building links with local Prep Schools who may have pupils whose needs exceed their in-house SEN provision. We have reduced our fees for the Prep School so that they are comparable with other local providers. Our Governors have recently announced that over the next two years the Prep will be extended to include Years 7 and 8, via an 'Upper Prep' school based on the senior school site.

Our website is regularly updated and will give you a comprehensive insight into our unique school. Please use the drop down boxes or the site map to find your way around: there are over 100 pages, so we cannot promise that everything will be exactly where you expect it to be, or absolutely up to date, but we do try!

My team has immense experience in helping children from all over the country, and indeed the world, with a range of specific learning difficulties. All our classroom staff including Learning Support Assistants, have specialist training, and most have dyslexia qualifications. Our therapists and mentors provide additional expertise on site.

For nearly seventy years, Frewen College and its predecessor schools here at Brickwall have been providing specialised support for young people with dyslexia and other related difficulties. Indeed, with our roots actually going back to 1910 we believe this to have been the first such school in England, if not the first in the world.

Please take a little while to learn more about us, and if you would like further information, or to come and visit us, please telephone me, or my PA Annabel Edwards, and we will be very happy to talk with you. If you would like to download our digital prospectus please click on the link on the home page.

Our Open Morning dates are shown on the News and Calendar pages, but if you think Frewen may be the right school for your child and you don't want to wait, do feel free to get in touch straight away.

I sincerely hope that we are able to help you.
