Our Head of Outdoor Activities is Paul Fitzsimmons, our tame Australian, who has injected a real sense of competitiveness, pride and passion in all aspects of Games and other Outdoor Activities. Paul is helped by Richard Sage, Joint Head of Boarding and a former Director of Sports, and by our two Gap Tutors.
We believe that sport is an area where many of our students can compete on level terms with other schools, and we encourage teams to enter into competition with mainstream as well as other 'special needs' schools. We do of course recognise that some concessions have to be made for those with dyspraxia or other difficulties that affect co-ordination or reaction times.
Our juniors regularly join in sports activities with a number of local mainstream junior schools, some of which we host.
We have an excellent range of facilities for such a small school, and are gradually increasing our fixture list, especially in cricket and rugby.
At the end of 2008 we were delighted to be awarded the Sportsmark Award, to recognise the tremendous progress made in delivering a wide range of sports activities.
