Welcome to 'Friends of Frewen College', an informal association that has been formed in response to suggestions from a number people from a variety of sources.

Membership

We hope that 'Friends' will draw support not just from past pupils, but also from past and present parents, staff, governors, and others who have helped with or benefited from the school’s outstanding work over many years. We would also welcome involvement from anyone who attended the earlier schools based at Brickwall House, or those who simply share an appreciation of the superb historic buildings, gardens and grounds.

This part of the website will be developed over coming months to provide a focal point for all those who would like to renew old contacts, or support the ongoing work of the school.

The site will in due course be divided into ‘Public’ and ‘Members’ sections, the former being for general news updates on the work of the ‘Friends’, and the latter providing a means of contacting old friends from your time at Frewen or its predecessor school Brickwall House.

Aims

The aims of the Friends group are still being defined, but are likley to include:

  • Building a network of past pupils to exchange news, information, and mutual support and encouragement.
  • Building up a pool of volunteers willing to help the school in a variety of ways such as assisting with school trips, sports, or working parties for special projects in and around the grounds.
  • Building a directory of contacts who might provide specialist expertise in anything from running a sculpture workshop to designing a sports hall!
  • Helping with fundraising for specific capital expenditure projects.
  • Generating support for the recently established “Chairman’s Fund”. This is a fund set up by the Chairman of Governors to raise money to supplement the school’s Bursary Scheme. We would like to raise funds principally through small regular GiftAid donations to assist particularly deserving pupils where, even with the support of a maximum bursary, parents simply cannot afford to finance the residual fees. All too often we have to turn away pupils who we know would benefit greatly from Frewen’s expertise, but who do not qualify for LEA funding and who have no access to private funding: it is hoped that the Chairman’s Fund will be able to help a small number of the most deserving cases.

Contact

'Friends' will initially be administered by Annabel Edwards, the school secretary. One of our current parents, Nick Brown, has kindly volunteered to Chair 'Friends of Frewen' and please feel free to contact him via the school's main email address.

At this stage, please simply register your interest via the registration form found here, Annabel will then contact you.

If you are in contact with any other former pupils, parents, staff or governors please bring this site to their attention.
